A Day on the Town Part II

From CK bicycles, I was diverted to a place I wasn't planning on visiting.  Actually, I never even knew it existed.   I'm probably the only person in the surrounding 4 towns that didn't have a clue.

It's Harvards town beach the lives behind the library near the center of town.  As I pull up, I'm greeted by a woman named Linda Mara, the pond monitor.

Linda parked on a slight incline waiting to collect money for the boat launch.

Linda steps out of her car and gives me a little tour of the beach front,  She explained what they do to preserve it's appearance, how the boat system works and what is done to help maintain  a homeostatic ecosystem.

To our left is the beach and a docking port for power boats.  To our right is a set of racks filled with various non-power boats and a man fishing in the middle of them.

"Check out this little guy," say's the fisherman.

The man detaches a tiny sunfish from his hook

This guy caught fish after fish.  It was incredible.  It seemed liked Linda knew him well.  So we chatted for a bit.  After some small talk, Linda suggested I go out in the Life Guards boat when one of them arrives for their shift.

10 minutes later, the guards arrive.  After some discussion...

"Alright man, let's do this" says Mitchell Williams, a student at Umass who works as a lifeguard in the summer.

Out we went..

Mitchell steering me out on a grand tour.of the giant lake.

Mitchell showed me the islands, the camps, Girls Scouts etc.  As we ride around, we see a variety of people on the water.  From the modest Fisherman on the shore to the hardcore guys fully geared up on boats.

A couple of Fisherman heading towards the shore to call it quits.

A Fisherman waiting for catch a nice one.

I moved to this area when I was 15.  That's 14 years ago!  I can't believe I never knew about this place.  It's a cool feeling when you discover these kinds of things.  It brings back that fresh feeling of being in a new place.. like CK Bikes, I'll be coming back..
